Where is my favourite place?

Where the tui shows off to his friends in the beaming sun.
Where the ocean waves are dancing in the breeze, with the water spraying on them.
Where the crabs are playing hide and seek in the beautiful blue water.
Where if you go up a hill, you will see Bethany camp ground hiding behind Kaiteri.
Where the shells dig into your feet on shimmery sand.
Where is my favourite place?
Kaiteri.

Christchurch

Beside the path
road cones guard us
from holes
while cars zoom past them.

Across the park
cicadas chirp their little
hearts out, singing a
beautiful melody.

At the back of the field
wet leaves fall from the
towering trees
that are swaying in the breeze.

In the middle of the road
the Hurunui humps
bump up like a roller coaster
In Disneyland.

Near the road,
the ลŒtakaro river splashes
against the banks
with the ducks chatting away
underneath the sky.

On top of the couch
we all get comfy
all ready to watch a movie
in the weekend.

This is where I belong, Christchurch.

Candy land

I wake up and see people in the town walking around in the
shops, running late for their job.

Cupcakes and lollies float around up
high.  Is there an alien invasion or something?

Sugar hills, piled high, try not to
collapse like a pile of boxes.

The ground crunches beneath my feet as if
I was walking on tiny stones.

I am the queen of this town with the people as
my servants.

On the walls in my kingdom it is rough
like sand paper.

Why are there things floating in the sky?
Why is it so bright and colourful?
Why is it made out of sugar?

Reflection

We are learning to use ekphrastic poetry (writing a poem about a piece of art).
I think that I went well because I could use metaphors and similes but I needed to have a wee bit of help to get started. My next step is to write many sentences using metaphor and simile.
